Milk and Cookies

We all have busy schedules that can get out of hand. Sometimes we need to take a minute and enjoy the little things. Sitting down with a cool glass of milk and a delicious cookie is one of the sweet joys of this life that the Lord has allowed us to enjoy.

Pouring Chocolate chips into a bowl

At this point everyone knows how good milk and cookies are together so there’s really not much to add. But did you know that Ecclesiastes tells us we should take time to enjoy the good things the Lord has given us? Ecc. 3:12-13 “I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil – this is God’s gift to man.”

I have always loved the book of Ecclesiastes and how it reminds us that life on this earth is really pointless without God. “The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecc. 12:13

We were made to love God and enjoy Him forever. If we aren’t living our lives in service to Him then we are living for ourselves. And what are we but “mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” James 4:14

So let us do our work with gladness and take a minute and enjoy the blessing of a sweet treat as we thank the Lord for providing gifts that we can enjoy.

Probably the best cookie ever has to be the chocolate chip cookie. Everyone usually has a family favorite that is their go to but if you are in search of a different one to try, this is our favorite that I think you will enjoy.

Chocolate chip cookie ingredients laid out on the counter

My mother’s original recipe called for 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening. But we have been trying to not use vegetable oils, so I modified the recipe to be just butter. It has worked really well for us.

Shifting ingredients

I have learned from trial and error that we really need to sift the baking soda and cream of tartar. If we don’t, we sometimes end up with these really bitter pockets of baking soda that are really gross. So, this is a step that I don’t skip any more.
