Learning to Make Pasta

We love to cook but I have always put off learning to make pasta because I was daunted by the thought of it.

Always Learning

We should always be willing to learn new things. For some reason, though, we often hit road blocks that cause us to not want to learn or we feel like we can’t learn.

When it came to pasta I was frozen. For years I marveled at people who said they could make pasta from scratch. The whole idea seemed so foreign to me. Obviously I knew it could be done just like sourdough. But still there was this road block that stopped me.

“What if it’s hard? What if I can’t do it? It must be time consuming?”

I don’t think I actually realized it, but these thoughts are what stopped me from learning. That and having never seen it done before. If I have the chance to watch someone do anything it makes it way easier to jump in there and try it for myself.

I did not grow up seeing any one make pasta by hand. Everyone I ever knew just did what everyone else did. They all bought dry pasta off the shelf at the grocery store. Since no body every made it I figured it must be too hard or it must take too much time.

But I was honestly shocked when I finally saw how simple it really was.

Finally Learning to Make Pasta

We recently watched Dude Perfect do a challenge with Nick DiGiovanni. After that we started watching a bunch of Nick’s video’s. We love his simple explanation of basic cooking skills.

When we watched him demonstrate how to make pasta it helped me see that the process is quite simple, and really not that time consuming!

Our kids have also really liked learning from Nick and we wanted to buy them his cook book.

They were so excited and have loved picking recipes to try. Each one got to pick a recipe for the week. Our youngest picked the pasta. We were all super excited to try home made pasta for ourselves.

It wasn’t perfect. As with all new things the first try has some hiccups.

We got a little messy but I was so excited about how easy it was.

Even rolling it out was easier than I expected. I figured since most people use pasta rollers it must be really tough to roll by hand. But it was surprising easy to roll out!

Lot’s of learning and practice went on as Kimbe, my oldest, even helped roll it out. She also took all the pictures for this post as she is wanting to learn about photography.

Never Stop Learning

So, moral of the story is, if there is something you would like to learn, find someone who can demonstrate it or watch a video. You may find it’s easier than you thought. Don’t let your ignorance stop you from learning.

And go learn to make some pasta! It’s so easy! 🙂
